What Kind of Home Gym Is Best for You?

By: Kenneth Weider

Investing in home gyms can give you one of the greatest returns in terms of health and well-being. But many people make the wrong decision on which home gym to purchase and it winds up as a coffee table or garage ornament.

With the introduction of the Bowflex, home gyms have skyrocketed in both popularity and use. But even the Bowflex home gym can lose its initial luster if the buyer has not done their due diligence before purchasing.

To save yourself buyer's remorse after purchasing a home gym, the following may be of help:

1. What type of exercises are you planning on doing with your home gym. Home gyms are made for targeting some muscle groups but maybe not all.

2. What type of space do you want to dedicate for a home gym. Some home gyms can be folded leaving a smaller footprint. Other home gyms can take up a small garage.

3. Purchase home gyms that you feel comfortable using. Some people prefer to load their home gyms with plates and others like the stacks of weights where the amount of resistance can be easily selected.

4. Remember too, the more moving parts a home gym has the greater for break downs over time. Cables and pulleys are notorious for wear over a given period of tie.

Now comes the fun part. You need to determine the return on your home gym investment. If you are looking at spending thousands of dollars, calculate how many months of membership you will have a local health club for the same price. Also, take in account that you have to be extremely self-disciplined to workout at home.
