What Do They Mean by Creating an Online Niche for Content?

By: Dan Iverson

Because all of the searches on the internet are tracked by a company called Wordtracker.com, we know which key word phrases are searched for the most to the least. It is when you combine this information with the stats kept by the search engines of all of their indexed sites, thing like how many sites provide content for a key word, and how long people spend at a site after a search, that you are able to identify niches on the internet.

What does all of this mean? It means that you are able to look up the different words that people have searched on, and see if there was enough or satisfactory content available to satisfy the needs of those looking for that particular information. I'll give an example: If I do a search on the internet for "vacation spots" I get 3 million results. If I do a search for "Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots," I get zero results. What does this tell me? It tells me that Google has 3 million sites with information on vacation spots. That means if I was going to try and build a site around these key words, I have to compete with millions of other sites. It also tells me that there are zero sites that have information on "Forest Lake Minnesota vacation spots." That means if I wanted to do a site based on those key words, I would have no competition.

You know you have found a niche when you can see that there are about 6 to 8 hundred searches done for the key word phrase, "Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots." With that many people looking for information and the results being so low on the search engines, you are assured that you are going to receive a steady supply of visitors to your site. Let's not forget this is free traffic.

So, what makes this an opportunity you might ask? The answer is because any time you have a regular supply of traffic going past your front door, you can be sure that those people need things. All you have to do is find things to put on your site that they want to buy. You can even create informational guides that you can sell. Keep in mind; these would be very high margin items. The best part of this is that you can build this website, get the tools you need to do the research, and the tools you need to optimize it for less than $499.00. Not a bad price for a business that has very high income potential.

The main point isn't that you should build a site using the keyword content of "Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots?" The main point is that there are thousands of niches "opportunities" out there right now waiting for you to take hold.

What this means is that if you looked at your own interests and you are willing to do a little research, you could probably find a small group of key words on that topic that people are currently doing searches for, which have little or no websites that provide good quality information for those searches.

Why is it important that you choose something that you are interested in? Because you are going to be married to that topic for a good while, during which, you will be writing content, doing research, writing articles and on and on. So, if you aren't interested or excited about the topic, you have just married yourself to a topic that you will probably find quite laborious to do the work for building a good content website. Again, it just makes sense that if there are tens of thousands of topics like this out there, you might as well work on one that you enjoy, right?

The reason people write articles like this one is to give other people access to themselves. This is done by giving away some knowledge that they have gained through their own efforts and experience. By giving access to themselves, they get access to others. This is when people get to help each other, collaborate on projects and share tool and Ideas. I would love to help you any way I can.
