Natural Treatment of Yeast Infections

By: Derek Wray

Yeast infections are like hungry little monsters waiting to scare young and older women when their bodies become out of balance.

Uncomfortable, irritating, embarrassing and just down right kind of gross, a yeast infection is something that most every woman will have to deal with han once in their lifetimes and for many women it becomes a recurring problem.

What is it?

Candida albicans is the most common yeast living in the human body. It is a parasite that feeds on nutrients found in your digestive track, producing over 70 toxins that travel through the bloodstream and can invade every organ system in your body.

In a healthy body, candida exists in a ratio of one candida cell for every million bacteria. Normally this is not a problem as our good bacteria keeps the candida under control. When that ratio gets out of balance, candida starts growing quickly and eventually can change into a more damaging fungal form.

The major cause of candida overgrowth is the overuse of antibiotics. Antibiotics are non discriminate and kill all forms of bacteria, both good and bad. When the "good" bacteria die off, this allows candida to flourish.

Prolonged stress, a diet high in processed foods and certain medications such as birth control pills, cortisone and hormone supplements can also promote the growth of the candida organism. Candida albicans

It's important to remember that when you have a yeast infection, there is an imbalance in your entire body and you need to restore that balance between the yeast and the bacteria.

And it's not just women that can be plagued with yeast infections, anyone can get them. Men, women, children, babies, the elderly.

Symptoms

A yeast infection can be chronic and hidden with strange or unusual symptoms that occur from time to time.

And those symptoms can change over time. An ache here today a pain there tomorrow. A headache today stomach pain tomorrow. Nothing you can really pinpoint. Most people think it is just getting older and accept the symptoms.

Other than the obvious symptoms that come with a vaginal yeast infection, symptoms can include arthritis, chronic rashes, tiredness or fatigue, poor memory, irritability, joint pain, feeling rundown, digestive pain, muscle aches, short attention span, gas and skin problems.

What Can I Do About It?

Yeast infections can be uncomfortable, but there are many natural remedies that use very simple components that can help relieve and ease their symptoms. In addition, there are some things to note during a yeast infection -- such as cutting down on simple carbohydrates including fruit and alcohol -- that may help you be more comfortable during its duration.
