Embracing the Unknown and How It Is Necessary For Entrepreneurs

By: Stu McLaren

Embracing the unknown is one attribute creative thinkers and entrepreneurs share.

In my mastermind group, Platinum that I was very fortunate to be able to participate in, one of its members was Rick Raddatz. During one of the meetings he said something that really reiterates this point.

With Armand Morin and Alex Mandossian, Rick created a product called Audio Generator, which can be found at audiogenerator.com. The service they provide allows people to call into a number, which records your voice onto a file and then it is ready to be used on your website. Your voice can now be put up anywhere on the web, easily.

When Rick was first thinking about this concept he shared his idea with Dan Kennedy. Dan's advice to Rick was, "It's not as profitable in the mode that you're trying to use it." Rick shared that he had originally thought of the service to help married couples.

When Rick was faced with the decision of whether he keeps pursuing that concept or try something completely new, he was at a crossroads, and he decided to try to use Audio Generator as a marketing tool versus a tool to help married couples.

Embracing the unknown is the exciting part of the whole process. Rick was going to work in an industry he had no idea how to market in. He was unsure if this product would be successful. It was an area that was unknown, yet very exciting.

Remember, when we're choosing between mediocrity and unlimited potential for your success, the difference boils down to doing what's comfortable and doing what's risky.

What is comes down to is, will you embrace the unknown and take a chance with something new? Or are you going to settle for just satisfactory?

The difference between creative thinkers and the rest of the world is that creative thinkers are not afraid to explore the unknown.

People who make the decision to explore the unknown are all around us. They are the ones who set sail to discover a new island, release a product no one has ever thought of, try a different marketing strategy, or even re-release an existing product to a new market.

The people who invent new technology are the ones who believe that a better solution is out there.

You see, creative thinkers have this confidence, this quiet confidence in their abilities to generate ideas, no matter what problems or obstacles they face.

They don't fear failure, but they still fear it a little bit. The reason they don't fear failure as much is because they have the confidence in their ability to generate solutions for whatever problems come in front of them.

Having the confidence to create a new product that has never been developed before or discover a great marketing strategy not being utilized comes from being a creative thinker. They focus on the potential of their ideas, instead of worrying about what could happen.

Imagine this: There are two doors in front of you. Door number one boasts a road that is well taken care of, not very hilly and does not have a lot of turns. By looking at it you can tell your journey would be fairly easy. Also by looking at it you can tell what the destination will be like too and that is not very exciting.

What about door number two? What's behind it is limited only by the reach of your imagination. If you choose to take this path, you can expect it to be wild and completely unpaved. You've got to be a true trailblazer, swinging your machete through the branches. But in return, you're going to go down in history as the one who created the road instead of just following it.

You made the decision to make something happen and people will recognize that. You made the difference that will affect everything around you, your family, friends, business, your future.

When you choose door number two you are showing the world that yes, you are a person who is willing to take risks, you are a person who will put in a lot of effort for the great rewards to follow. Opening door number two allows you to differ yourself from everyone else, it open a door to success.

Door one or door two, which will you choose?
