Creating An Effective Pay Per Click Campaign

By: Brian Basch

Over the years pay per click advertising has evolved. Google's rules have changed forcing advertisers to do more than just insert massive amounts of keywords into their campaigns and forget about them. Now those old ways are no longer profitable.
Doing this sort of thing today will result in most of your keywords being deactivated, or they'll be active, but expensive. Bid prices on basic keywords have gone up, so you'll have to pay attention to the ones you choose if you want an effective campaign.
The upside of this is the fact that it does not take too much to improve your campaign. If you take a little time to understand the reasons for Google's rules and regulations and select the right keywords, you will be able to make a profitable campaign.
Advertising is what makes the money for Google. The ads must be appealing to readers so that they will click through and Google will profit. This is why Google is very strict about what ads will be shown.
To this end, Google is working to weed out spam, false information, and websites that don't provide anything to the viewer. Too many pay per click sites fit these criteria. If you want to succeed with your campaign, make sure Google views you as legitimate.
What should you do to achieve this? To get a higher quality score, as well as lower costs, start by adding to your site. A few extra pages telling about your site will help you in Google's eyes.
Firstly introduce an "About Us" page, list of terms and conditions, and a separate privacy page. These additions will do a lot to raise your quality score. Google also considers a contact page to be very important.
While this seems like a negligible change in your site, it can significantly improve your standing in searches, and make your pay per click campaign a lot more profitable. Another technique that can do a lot for your site is the addition of an XML sitemap.
An XML sitemap is really just a directory of the content in your site. However, it makes it a lot easier for Google to see what your site is and does. Ask a programmer to add a map for you. It'll cost a little, but it might make your bids up to thirty-five percent cheaper.
Impressing Google with your site and obeying their rules will do a lot to help your campaign. In fact you can test your keywords yourself by doing a search for them.
Then, check out related terms and see what the copy and meta tags on competitors' sites look like. While it's a bad idea to directly copy these, you can use them for inspiration. Every little bit of real content you can add to your site will help you look a lot better in Google's eyes, lowering your costs and increasing your chances of profit!
